WordPress Blogging Frustrations, Discoveries and Victories

Are you a Tech-Frustrated Fellow Blogger?

If so, WELCOME.  I welcome you with open arms, an open heart, a bit of humor and a deep, deep empathy to the newbies trying to make money online.  So let’s get to it.

It’s been almost two weeks since uploading WordPress.org onto a hosting account and buying a domain name to have this blog  hosted by a hosting company and therefore safe because it’s  paid for.  That is – the hosting and domain name was chosen by me and I paid for it.   Rule one – never open a free blog for a serious project or serious attempt at blogging.  Free blogs  run ads on the blogs but the worst part is they can take your blog down – and take it away.  You know – bye bye blog!    You must decide if this is worth it to you.   Now that was an issue that did not need mulling over – no question, it was a blog that I paid for – which is the hosting and the domain name.  So I dowloaded the WordPress.org -  not the free WordPress.com.

So, here is a WordPress.org blog uploaded and after staring  at the dashboard, for what seemed like forever and ever and ever… I decided to purchase a theme called Thesis.  I took one look at the ease of use of that theme – and purchased it.  Wow, what a great decision. I thought – Hmmm….  this purchase will enable me to start my first blog.  And so here we are – first blog, first post… albeit one step at a time.  After all, I’ve been reading about this and watching videos on internet marketing  and blogging for close to three years.  How hard could a blog be?  And additionally,  this theme made it easy.  This WordPress theme had videos that showed you how  – with a click of your mouse you could move columns in the blog, change fonts, simply do amazing things with such ease.  In fact, I watched all the videos on what it could do more than three times.  Ok, they had only three or four videos that lasted  minutes each – but heck, I took notes.   Ok, I didn’t take notes but really paid attention.  But the saga continues…

With Thesis Theme  installed it simply was still a blog without even a  post.  I had writers block along with Internet Marketing Overload Block?  Could be.  I’m sure it will not be long until someone diagnoses this ‘disease’ of not understanding the how to do this and why so many develop what I like to call – Deer In the Headlights Syndrome.  In fact, there are too many names to call this ‘mystery can’t get it online stuff’  and that is why this blog exists.  This will be an extraordinary attempt to remove all the little holes in internet marketing – but let’s just start with the blog for now.   Every step taken will be methodically written down here in laymans terms so you can understand it – all of it  – and video to follow.  Nothing will be left out.  I’ll be one step ahead – and we will start conquering this thing one day at a time.

But stay tuned.  You’ve probably thought of outsourcing your headaches, haven’t you?  Well, tomorrow you must hear about the adventurous search to find local help and the help I finally did receive.   In addition, let’s take your first steps to getting your blog up.   I’ll go over what I’ve done to host it – and all the who, what, where, when and how to get you to set up your first blog.  We’ll go through it all – in baby steps.

Are you ready?   I hope so… because we are going to have some fun using  our huge passion for success along with the intent to earn our first dollar online!

Great speaking to you over the phone last night. It’s now your turn to bypass anything blocking your way and make a small baby step. Get your first blog post up.
Come on. You can do it!

Jim Benson July 27, 2009 at 9:05 pm

Hello Susan,
I saw your post in the forum and I felt like I was in the same spot as you were until I went through the videos in order again. The steps were to create your website, upload the PPP, then create a blog.
I haven’t been doing everthing in that exact order but I probably should start following Alex’s instructions, exactly!
This is kind of hard for me, posting on a blog, and it’s the first time that I’ve ever done it…

Keep going and good luck.

Gil,
You are the best! Been so ill… so very grateful for your inspiring
posts and emails. I will be posting tomorrow ( I have a day off )
and I really can’t wait to tell my story. Ahhh… It might even be
helpful to others and save them time.

Susan July 29, 2009 at 12:08 am

Hi Jim,
Yes… I hear you. Did you overcome this and if so how? I must make
my way back to your blog.

BTW, I believe we need to fix our photos like Mike and Jim did. I’ll have
to add that to my list. Whoever finds it first – let’s contact one another
and fix this empty avatars.
See you back at your blog and thank you :)

gil July 29, 2009 at 10:45 am

Damn Susan! All it took was your first post and you’re already miles ahead.
I had no idea you knew how write so well. Your first blog post just makes you want to read more, and come back to this blog more.

Why on earth didn’t you post before? Man, I wish I had your talent for writing.

Keep it up and I’ll see you at the top,

Gil

Hi Susan,
What a wonderful post, I really love your style of writing! I too have struggled to earn an income online for almost 3 years & I think part of my problem was that I OVER ANALYZED EVERYTHING! Instead of taking action on something, I kept PREPARING to take action!
When you get the word that the ‘DISEASE’ you mentioned has a cure-please let me know! :-)

I wish you the best, Susan-take care,
Joann

Andy Michaels July 29, 2009 at 4:47 pm

Hi Susan,

I really enjoyed your post. There’s something reassuring to know that many if us are having the same headaches. Possibly the best part of that is many people who visit our blogs will have the same issues then we can help them, build a list, build a relationship, make an income. Boom. done.

Susan-

Yay!!I LOVE the Thesis blog theme!

I like your writing style in the post above. I think that open, conversational tone will do great by you…AND…I think you’ll find it pretty easy to write using that same style, which should help ease the writers block!

See you over at Alex’s site!

Hi Susan
I am a fellow student of Alex Jeffreys and I had terrible problems setting up my blog.
If you want to find out how to get a small photograph up everytime you post a blog then I would suggest you go to http://www.wordpressclassrom.com where Matt Wolfe has given us access to free videos. He explains in such easy step by step instruction everyone can follow it. I have been through all the problems you are going through so if there is anything I can do to help you then please let me know.

Keep blogging!

Heidi Passey August 20, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Hi Susan,

I completely suffer from the “Deer In the Headlights Syndrome” every time I sit down to write. I have all these ideas of what I can blog about, but then when it comes to writing them I go blank.

I’m hoping the more I write the easier it will get.

Take Care, Heidi

Rod Macbeth August 27, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Hi Susan,

Great first post…but also the last one. :(

Sure hope you haven’t given up as you are certainly capable of having a successful blog. This post shows that.

I want to start my first blog, what blog platform do you use and recommend for me ?

Sally Neill May 11, 2010 at 10:54 am

Hi Susan,

It’s such a wide learning curve sometimes I feel like my head will explode anytime soon, but I love it all the same.

I am using a free theme just now until I can upgrade to a paid one.

Sally :)

Susan May 12, 2010 at 11:40 am

Hi Sally,
Thank you for the comment. I suggest a free theme now – that way it’s appears easier to use the basics. I am about to post a great
blogging tutorial – so hang on! It has free videos in it as well. Is the blog you are putting up your first blog? I’m about to head over to
see it now.

Steve May 28, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Hi Susan,
Like you, I am new to blogging and WordPress. Unlike you, I have several domains and have installed blogs on all of them, but steve-steiner.com is the only one that I have posted any content to, and it is just getting started. From the comments, can I take it that you are a student of Alex Jeffreys? That is interesting since my concentrated effort to get a blog up and running comes from a class I am taking from Dean Holland who happens to be a former student of Alex. Big Internet, small world!
I just “hopped” to your blog from another one that happened to have a list of recommended blogs. I need to see how he did that, it sounds like a great idea. Posting to blogs is one way to generate back links (or so I understand) and having a list of recommended blogs on a site would give readers suggested blogs that are hopefully in the same niche as the reader. Your blog looks pretty good, it is amazing just how many different themes there are out there!
To you success,
Steve

Susan May 30, 2010 at 5:49 pm

Hi Steve,
Yes, you are right – Alex Jeffries Gurl. (smile). I’ve had to take a break from this (not happy) but will resume in about a month. I’ll
write a more detailed reply and of course welcome your comments and links. I have a great blogging software that I’m about to
jump into – and I’ll share it with a post soon. Again, time is tight – as you know – and we really have to focus with this stuff.

To your success as well,
Susan

Cheryl *IM* Jones August 11, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Susan,

I can certainly understand why you would want to go with a paid theme that is easy to use. I had a lot of trouble finding a theme…I had problems using the themes I picked. Finally, I purchased one also for the same reason…it was easy to use.

Sue McDonald August 13, 2010 at 6:41 pm

Hi Susan

I came for a visit but no one was home but I see you are popping in to collect you mail sometimes. Get back to it girl… if I can help let me know.

A little about me – My name is Sue McDonald and I am a student of Mark Terrell and I am actually going through the course a second time – by invitation. I love it and know if I do all he says, I will be successful. I am Australian but the US is my second home as I have family there and visit quite often. This is why I started Internet Marketing so I can travel whenever I want and have the money to do what I want.

Well I hope you are doing well and you become very successful. I would love you to come visit my blog and leave a comment.

Kind regards

Sue

Mark * Coaching Newbies* Terrell August 14, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Hi Susan

I have just come for a visit to your site. How are you going?

Yes it’s Mark and I am following my students as they post on other peoples blogs. They don’t know that I am always checking to see they are getting results. I am passionate about helping them achieve and then they are able to make some money online exactly the same as I am doing. It is not really difficult as long as they are willing to put in the effort.

Keep up the good work.

Regards

Mark

Hi Susan, Like you I am new to all the tech stuff, although I have a background in business and marketing, the tech stuff frustrates me to no end. I finally got my blog up with the help of a fellow Alex Jeffries student . I wasn’t even aware there was a wordpress.org option until I read your post, I’ll check it out. Thanks!
